While travelling South America, I was fortunately enough to spend my birthday at Machu Picchu. It really is an incredible place and really does deserve its accolade of a Wonder of the World.
We travelled to Machu Picchu in February, this is low season for the tourist (great), but is also the rainy season (boo). This meant that we had a lot of clouds to contend with when photographing this iconic view. Unfortunately the clouds did not fully clear until around midday when the sun was it’s most direct.
My favourite picture from the day was this HDR (High Dynamic Range) photograph. I am always a little uncertain of HDR photography because it gives a somewhat fake look to the photo, it did help capture the detail of the scene under tricky lighting conditions.
